Training
The correct training of the workforce in all areas of mechanical, structural, welding and engineering works is critical to achieve consistency in the quality of work output.
Prerequisites are in place for the basic training of personnel. Kolmark’s commitment to the continuation of supporting new apprenticeships is necessary to cater for the supply of future trades persons.
This Company will continue to make available apprentice positions in order to fulfil its role in the training of the trades in Tasmanian Industry.
Significant areas of training are highlighted by the following special skill arenas:
Orbital Welding
Kolmark utilises this robotic welding method for welding critical applications as well as high volume welding where the time factor becomes a major issue.
We have an AMI 200 amp power source that controls the weld head. This unit is fully programmable for welding tube as well as schedule pipe, with or without filler wire feed. Our weld heads cover welding from 25mm up to 100mm tube and 25NB to 100 NB Schedule pipe Other weld heads that suit this power source can weld pipe up to 300mm dia. The machine can be programmed for pulse, stepped, or continuous travel.
Several of our personnel have completed certified training in the use of this Robotic Welding Machine.
Pressure Welding
Kolmark also employs fully qualified WTIA certified pressure welders. These tradesmen have a range of tickets to their credit. This capacity gives us the skills to complete pressure piping and installation projects from fabrication to commissioning.
As apprentices complete their training, they are financially encouraged to enrol in post-trade training in the pressure welding field in order to emerge from their apprenticeship with excellent credentials.
Stainless Steel Pressure Welding
Our personnel are experienced in this area, matching the skills that they have acquired in the pressure welding field.
We have carried out a number of special projects involving special exotic alloys to AS 4041#1 where operating climates reach in excess of 600C. We have recently completed a project that involves welded Inconel piping being exposed to 800C +at 20 bar+ pressures
Stainless Tank & Vessel Fabrication
All of our personnel have been exposed to this area of fabrication ranging from wine vats to dairy, industrial, pharmaceutical, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
Aluminium Fabrication
Aluminium welding and fabrication is an area that has been very successful throughout the years.
Our personnel have experience in both TIG and MIG welding in this field, from tank and vessel fabrication to industrial plate work and also marine applications
Titanium Welding
We have developed an inert atmosphere facility for the successful welding of critical steels.
This has already been put to use in the repairs of titanium agitator blades.
We arrange for metallurgical and analytical testing of the parent metals prior to welding any critical steels. This enables the correct consumables to be used
Natural Gas Piping
Our qualified welders have been active in the fabrication of natural gas piping in the industrial field.
We have welding procedures in place that pre-qualify to WTIA standards.
